Record 72.2 Million Americans Hit the Road on July 4 as Gas Prices Hit $3.77 Per Gallon

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), a record 72.2 million Americans are traveling at least 50 miles for Independence Day despite elevated gas prices. Gas price tracking platform GasBuddy reported that the national average gas price reached $3.772 per gallon on Friday, up 62.7 cents year-over-year. GasBuddy had forecasted July 4 prices around $3.75 per gallon, representing the second-highest level since 2022 when prices peaked at $4.80 per gallon.
