According to a statement from the Philippine Armed Forces on May 13, military personnel deployed to the Senate that day were assigned to provide security duties at the institution. Marine Corps commandos were sent to the Senate at the request of the Senate security office. Video footage showed law enforcement and military personnel entering the Senate building, with gunshots and screams heard inside. Authorities deployed approximately 1,500 personnel around the Senate and conducted a full alert that evening. An investigation into the shooting incident is ongoing.
