According to BitPinas, the Philippines' Commission on Elections (COMELEC) removed blockchain technology and voter verification systems from its 2028 presidential election budget proposal on June 3, reducing the initial 25 billion peso budget by approximately 6 billion pesos. The commission cited budget optimization and data privacy risks as primary reasons for the move, noting that election operations can proceed without these functions. The removed features were deemed non-essential to conducting elections.
