PC Shipments Fall 4.9% Year-Over-Year in Q2, First Decline in Two Years Amid Memory Shortage

DELL-3.39%
MSFT0.19%

According to IDC, PC shipments declined 4.9% year-over-year in the second quarter, marking the first drop in two years as a global memory chip shortage continues to impact the industry.

IDC expects the memory supply crunch to persist until early 2028. Manufacturers including HP, Dell, Microsoft, and Apple have already raised Windows PC and MacBook prices in response to rising production costs. The undersupply is expected to accelerate industry consolidation, favoring larger vendors over smaller competitors.
