Over 160 U.S. Air Force Personnel Infected With Influenza at Texas Base; One Death Under Investigation

According to U.S. military officials on June 19, over 160 personnel at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas were infected with influenza in recent weeks. Air Force spokesman stated that medical and public health personnel have implemented isolation and treatment measures for symptomatic individuals to reduce further exposure and prevent spread.

One soldier from the 737th Training Support Squadron died from a medical emergency during basic military training earlier this week at Brooke Medical Center. The Air Force said the cause of death is under investigation and a comprehensive medical review is underway.
