Oracle Falls 6.47% as S&P Downgrades Credit Rating Amid OpenAI Contract Concerns

ORCL-2.08%

According to Motley Fool analysis, Oracle stock fell 6.47% to $131.54 on July 13 (NYSE close) following S&P's downgrade of its credit rating from BBB to BBB-. The analysis attributes the decline to investor concerns over OpenAI's ability to fulfill its obligations under a $300 billion computing services contract signed with Oracle last year, with S&P estimating OpenAI accounts for roughly half of Oracle's remaining performance obligations.

Motley Fool noted that Apple's lawsuit against OpenAI could further increase risks, while S&P maintained a "stable" outlook. If OpenAI fails to pay, Oracle could face significant losses on long-term data center lease obligations.
