Gate News message, April 28 — OpenAI expects its cheaper, ad-supported subscription tier will not only attract new users but also prompt tens of millions of existing paid subscribers to downgrade. The company projects consumer subscription users will more than double this year to 122 million and reach 306 million by 2030.
OpenAI forecasts ChatGPT Plus subscriptions will decline 80% this year to approximately 9 million users, while its premium Pro tier will double but still represent less than 1% of total users. The company also expects consumer subscriptions to grow by more than 100% this year.
Advertising is projected to become OpenAI’s largest single revenue source, generating approximately $102 billion by 2030, accounting for about 36% of total revenue.

OpenAI mobile supply-chain update: MediaTek exclusive processor? Mass production schedule advanced to the first half of 2027
Guo Ming-chi said OpenAI is accelerating the development of its first AI Agent phone, targeting mass production in the first half of 2027. This may also enable MediaTek to secure exclusive orders for processors, with a custom chip built on the Dimensity 9600. It would be produced by TSMC’s N2P process in the second half of 2026. Key specifications include an ISP with high dynamic range, dual NPU, LPDDR6, UFS 5.0, and pKVM security. If everything goes smoothly, shipments in 2027–2028 could reach about 30 million units, which would be of significant importance to OpenAI’s IPO narrative and its entry into the broader consumer market.
