OpenAI Open-Sources Plant Talk: Real-Time Voice Conversations With AI-Powered Plants

According to Beating, OpenAI recently open-sourced Plant Talk, an educational project combining Realtime API, multimodal vision models, and Arduino hardware to enable plants to sense their environment and respond via voice. Users can interact with AI-powered plant personas through webcam and microphone, while capacitive soil moisture and light sensors feed real-time data. The AI calls hardware functions to estimate plant dryness, branch count, and maximum span based on camera imagery, then responds in a personified plant voice.
