According to Beating, OpenAI Foundation announced a $250 million commitment to launch the 'Economic Future in the Age of AI' initiative, led by Divya Siddarth and Wojciech Zaremba. The program aims to provide economic security for workers displaced by rapid AI adoption and ensure technology-driven wealth benefits the broader public.
The foundation plans three main strategies: rebuilding accounting infrastructure to clarify how AI-generated wealth flows to wages, corporate profits, and economic rents; piloting new social safety models including unemployment assistance and wage subsidies; and exploring long-term solutions such as capital taxes, sovereign wealth funds modeled after Norway and Alaska, and multi-agent economic simulations. The $250 million will be distributed through grants and academic partnerships, with the first initiatives expected to be announced later this year.
