OpenAI Chief Acknowledges Kimi K3 Model "Quite Good", Says U.S.-China AI Gap at 4 Months

According to Beating, OpenAI president Greg Brockman acknowledged that Kimi K3 from Moon Dimension is "quite good," while noting that the gap between Chinese and U.S. AI models may be only about four months. Brockman stated it remains too early to determine whether Kimi enhanced its capabilities through distillation of OpenAI's model, and that OpenAI will continue monitoring the situation. He added that future competitive advantage will depend less on whether models are open-source and more on who can accomplish tasks at lower cost.
