According to Optimism, OP Mainnet launched a staking-based transaction sequencing experiment today, marking the first change to its ordering rules in years. Previously, transactions were ordered solely by priority gas fees. The trial runs for four weeks until June 23 and has been approved by Optimism's governance mechanism.
Users who stake at least 100,000 OP tokens in the PolicyEngineStaking contract can participate and gain priority transaction placement. The experiment will occupy a maximum of 20% of block space, with unused capacity flowing back to the regular transaction pool. Once the trial ends, OP Mainnet will automatically revert to standard priority gas ordering. Non-participating users' transaction sequencing rules remain unchanged.
