Offshore Institutions Hold 3.12 Trillion Yuan in Interbank Bonds as of End-April

According to the People’s Bank of China Shanghai Head Office, as of end-April 2026, offshore institutions held 3.12 trillion yuan in interbank market bonds, accounting for 1.8% of total custodial volume. By bond type, they held 1.94 trillion yuan in Treasury bonds (62.2%), 0.75 trillion yuan in policy financial bonds (24.0%), 0.29 trillion yuan in interbank certificates of deposit (9.3%), and 0.14 trillion yuan in other bonds (4.5%).
