NPO Poised to Commercialize Earlier Than CPO as Glass Bridge Emerges as Key AI Optical Tech

According to Nomura Securities' recent expert conference on advanced optical packaging, near-package optics (NPO) is expected to commercialize at a larger scale earlier than chiplet-packaged optics (CPO). Experts also highlighted Glass Bridge—an optical interface technology using glass materials to connect photonic integrated circuits with fiber—as a critical enabling technology for high-density optical interconnects in AI servers. NPO combines low power consumption and high bandwidth while maintaining pluggable electrical interfaces, offering greater flexibility for system maintenance and upgrades compared to CPO.
