According to New Jersey Health Department Commissioner Leonard Washington, the state has reported at least 19 suspected heat-related deaths since July 2 as of July 4. Victims of varying ages were found in different environments, with many discovered in air-conditioned homes and some in outdoor locations, streets, or parked vehicles. Washington emphasized that the deceased include not only elderly individuals but also younger adults. The state has also seen an increase in emergency department visits for heat-related illnesses during the week.
