Mistral AI Acquires Austria-Based Emmi AI for Industrial Expansion in Europe

According to Reuters, Mistral AI acquired Linz-based Emmi AI on May 19 to expand its industrial software business in Europe. Emmi AI develops machine learning models for physics-intensive engineering tasks including airflow simulation, heat transfer, and material stress analysis. The Austrian startup raised 15 million euros ($17.4 million) in 2025.

Mistral said the acquisition will help it target engineering and manufacturing applications as the European Union seeks to reduce reliance on U.S. and Chinese technology in artificial intelligence development.
