Meralco System Loss Rate at 5.72%, Company Urges Careful EPIRA Reform on July 28

According to a Meralco statement on July 28, the Manila Electric Company said some level of system loss is unavoidable in electricity distribution and urged lawmakers to carefully consider President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s proposal to remove the charge from consumer bills. Meralco's system loss rate stands at 5.72%, well below the 6.5% regulatory cap set by the Energy Regulatory Commission. The company emphasized that reforms to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act should protect consumers while allowing utilities to maintain networks and ensure service stability.
