According to LayerZero Labs, the KelpDAO rsETH cross-chain bridge—built on its cross-chain communication protocol—was breached on March 6, resulting in approximately 116,500 rsETH ($292 million) being stolen. Security firms Mandiant and CrowdStrike attributed the attack to TraderTraitor (UNC4899), a North Korea-linked hacking group. Attackers exploited social engineering to compromise LayerZero developer accounts, gaining access to session keys and RPC cloud infrastructure. LayerZero Labs announced it will adjust security policies by preventing its own DVN (decentralized verification network) from serving as the sole signer, rebuild affected cloud infrastructure, and implement short-lived credentials, instant privilege escalation, and multi-party approval mechanisms.
