Kazakhstan Approves Strategic Crypto Mining Rules Requiring 150MW Data Centers and Asset Transfers

According to Zakon.kz, Kazakhstan approved strategic digital mining rules on July 18 that give large-scale miners access to regulated electricity quotas in exchange for transferring part of their mined crypto assets to Astana Hub, a government-backed technology cluster. The framework enters into force on Aug. 1, 2026, per Government Resolution No. 638.

Applicants must own a digital mining data center with at least 150 megawatts of capacity and use mining hardware with a minimum of 150 terahashes per second computing power. Miners are also required to maintain qualified technical staff, repair facilities, multiple internet contracts, and remain current on tax payments. According to local media reports, approved miners must transfer approximately 10% of mined assets to the reserve mechanism, though this figure was not independently verified.
