Kalshi's Bitcoin Perpetual Futures Hits $5.5B Trading Volume in Two Weeks, Plans Expansion Beyond Crypto

According to Bloomberg, Kalshi received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on May 29, 2026, for BTCPERP under Regulation 40.3, marking the first US perpetual futures contract approved by the agency. Co-founder Tarek Mansour announced at a Bloomberg conference that the platform plans to expand perpetual futures beyond digital assets following the products generating more than $5.5 billion in trading volume in their first two weeks. The CFTC's same-day policy statement set a case-by-case path for perpetual contracts tied to asset classes not covered by the initial order.
