Japan's $1.1 Trillion Treasury Holdings Pose Systemic Risk, Peter Schiff Warns This Week

According to Peter Schiff speaking on The Peter Schiff Show Podcast this week, Japan's surging bond yields and weakening currency pose a systemic threat to U.S. financial markets. Japan's 30-year government bond yield hit near 4%, a record for that maturity, while the yen fell to its lowest level against the dollar in 40 years.

Schiff highlighted that Japan holds over $1.1 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, the largest foreign holding of any nation. He warned that a Japanese debt crisis could force large-scale selling of this position, potentially triggering broader U.S. market turmoil. "It may be the pin that pricks our bubble," Schiff said, comparing Japan's economic stress to the larger risks facing the United States.
