According to Jin10, on May 17, leaders of Italy, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta issued a joint statement addressing migration challenges amid Middle East security concerns. The statement emphasized the need to prevent a migration crisis similar to that in 2015, with the four nations committing to discuss four key areas: supporting improved security in the Middle East, ensuring humanitarian aid reaches affected populations, ensuring full implementation of EU migration policies, and strengthening efforts against human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Italy’s interior minister will host a follow-up meeting with representatives from the three other countries in Rome on June 17, 2026.
