According to Tasnim News Agency, Iran stated today (May 20) that U.S. hostility toward Iran dates to a 1953 coup orchestrated by the U.S. and UK, not 1979. The coup overthrew Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, who had defended Iran's national sovereignty and resources.
