Iran Says Service Fees for Strait of Hormuz Transit Are 'Completely Permissible,' June 12

According to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a June 12 interview with Iranian media, Iran has begun consultations with multiple countries on transit through the Strait of Hormuz and stated that charging service fees in the waterway is completely permissible under international law, though transit fees are not. Araghchi also indicated that frozen Iranian assets could begin to be unfrozen under a potential memorandum of understanding with the United States, pending detailed discussions. Regarding Iran's highly enriched uranium, he stated that the only acceptable method is dilution or conversion within Iran.
