According to its Q2 2026 quarterly report, the IOTA Foundation activated the Starfish consensus protocol on April 23 and accelerated expansion of its Trade Worldwide Information Network (TWIN) across Africa and the United Kingdom.

The foundation said the Starfish upgrade improves network stability and reduces transaction latency, while Protocol Version 29 strengthens smart contract security and the P-COOL enhancement reduces computing resource requirements by roughly half. In Africa, IOTA advanced digital trade infrastructure with TradeMark Africa in Kenya and launched the ADAPT initiative with the AfCFTA Secretariat, Tony Blair Institute, and World Economic Forum across Kenya, Nigeria, and Morocco. In the UK, TWIN secured support from five organizations for the International Supply Network. The foundation plans to expand TWIN to more than 30 countries by 2030.
