Indian Startup Vimag Labs Files Patent for Rare-Earth-Free Electric Motor Technology on July 15

According to Newtalk, Indian startup Vimag Labs announced today the successful patent filing for a rare-earth-free electric motor platform. The technology eliminates the need for permanent magnets traditionally used in EV motors, instead relying on software-controlled magnetic fields to drive the motor. This development addresses a critical supply-chain vulnerability, as China currently controls approximately 94% of global rare-earth magnet supplies. Prototypes of the technology are performing well, with multiple automotive manufacturers already conducting real-world tests. The company, valued at approximately $5 million, expects to begin commercial shipment within the year.
