According to IDC, on July 8, the memory chip supply crunch is expected to persist longer than previously anticipated, with the market's inflection point now forecasted for the second half of 2028. The research firm projected DRAM supply shortages to reach approximately 13% in Q4 2027, and NAND flash deficits to continue at 3-4% throughout 2027. Meanwhile, Micron has signed 16 strategic customer agreements covering about 20% of its DRAM production capacity and one-third of its NAND output, with cumulative contract values totaling approximately $100 billion. The memory market is shifting from quarterly price negotiations to multi-year supply contracts, as high-bandwidth memory and AI-related products consume over 30% of increased production capacity, leaving limited supply for commodity memory markets.
