IBK Industrial Bank reported a consolidated net profit of 689.5 billion won for Q2, down 0.7% from 694.4 billion won in the same period last year, the bank announced on July 27. The decline was attributed to expanded foreign exchange valuation losses due to sharp currency fluctuations and increased loan loss provisions. For the first half, consolidated net profit fell 4.4% year-on-year to 1.44 trillion won, while standalone net profit decreased 9% to 1.21 trillion won from 1.33 trillion won a year earlier. Despite the profit decline, the bank minimized the impact through improved interest income from asset growth and reduced funding costs, along with gains from securities-related operations. The results come as the bank aggressively expanded SME lending in alignment with the government's productive finance policy, pushing its SME loan market share to a record 24.6%.

Non-interest income, however, plummeted 54.2% to 184.2 billion won from 402.3 billion won, cut nearly in half due to foreign exchange valuation losses of 126.6 billion won resulting from sharp currency appreciation during the first half.
The bank's net interest margin (NIM) stood at 1.59% in Q2, down 0.01 percentage point from 1.60% in the previous quarter. Fee income rose 2.5% year-on-year to 323 billion won, while securities-related gains increased 3.2% to 381.3 billion won.
