High-Net-Worth Individuals in Seoul Jump 36% as KOSPI Rally Fuels Wealth Effect

According to Herald Economy, Seoul's ultra-high-net-worth population surged 36.3% year-over-year as of June 2026, with 6,220 individuals holding assets exceeding $30 million, making the city the fastest-growing among the world's 12 largest wealth hubs, according to Altrata's June 22 report. The surge follows a dramatic rally in South Korea's stock market, with the KOSPI index climbing from 2,000 points last year to a peak of 9,000 points in 2026, currently settling around 7,000 points. The wealth surge is accelerating new affluent investor formation; Mirae Asset Securities reported customers with 3 billion won or more in financial assets surged over 200% from 3,000 in May 2025 to approximately 9,500 by June 2026, while Samsung Securities registered 10,645 such clients as of June 29, an 81.6% increase from year-end 2025.
