According to News.bitcoin, on July 21, hackers briefly disrupted Kenya President William Ruto's official website, defacing its homepage and demanding 5 Bitcoin as ransom. Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for ICT William Kabogo confirmed that the ICT Authority launched an immediate cybersecurity response protocol. The government temporarily restricted public access to the portal to contain the incident and conduct forensic investigation.
No evidence of unauthorized access to sensitive data, data breach, or information loss has been found, according to Kabogo. Government systems and digital services remain secure and operational.
