Google DeepMind Loses Two Gemini Contributors to Anthropic, Faces 11x Higher Talent Exodus Rate

According to 动察 Beating monitoring, Google DeepMind experienced further talent losses over the past several days, with Gemini core contributors Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel planning to join Anthropic. This follows recent departures including John Jumper, leader of the AlphaFold team and 2024 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, who also joined Anthropic, and Noam Shazeer, Gemini co-lead, who moved to OpenAI as head of architecture research. Additionally, senior research engineer Arthur Conmy, who worked on Gemini 2.5 and AI coding, announced his move to Anthropic for alignment work, and researcher Rishub Jain, after 7 years at DeepMind, left to start an AI safety nonprofit focused on scalable human oversight.

According to analysis by SignalFire, DeepMind engineers are 11 times more likely to join Anthropic than the reverse, reflecting an acute talent retention crisis. CEO Demis Hassabis publicly acknowledged at the Cannes Lions festival that AI talent competition is at its most intense in tech industry history. Anthropic's recent Series H funding at a $965 billion valuation, combined with competitive salaries and equity packages, is drawing core talent from Google's research divisions.
