GM Partners with Peak Energy to Develop Sodium-Ion Batteries for Grid Storage After 2028

According to CNBC, General Motors announced Tuesday a partnership with Denver-based startup Peak Energy to develop next-generation sodium-ion batteries for energy storage systems, targeting deployment after 2028. The chemistry can operate without active cooling and with reduced system complexity, potentially lowering upfront and operating costs compared to traditional lithium-ion solutions. The automaker is also expanding vehicle-to-grid capabilities for EV customers to help offset rising electricity costs, and launched an "Energy Pass" for seamless public charging access, including Tesla Superchargers.
