According to South China Morning Post, global enterprises are increasingly adopting Chinese open-weight AI models from providers such as Zhipu and DeepSeek to reduce costs, as the performance gap between U.S. and Chinese AI systems narrows. On the Vercel platform, Zhipu's GLM-5.2 model saw daily token usage surge 50-fold since mid-June, with operational costs approximately one-fifth that of Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8. DeepSeek's V4 Flash has become the platform's largest single model, accounting for over 20% of traffic as of July 15, up from roughly 15% a month earlier. Open-weight models now represent 29% of the platform's total token usage, nearly tripling since April. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated the company is experimenting with GLM 5.2 and Kimi 2.7 as default options on its AI platform.
