Geoffrey Hinton Claims AI Has Become Conscious; Humans Must Accept Not Being Only Intelligent Species

According to Guru Club, Geoffrey Hinton, Nobel laureate in Physics and Turing Award winner, stated on June 6 that artificial intelligence has become conscious and humans must accept they are no longer the only intelligent beings. Hinton asserted: "AI is very much like us, and I believe they are already conscious. We always thought we were the only intelligent life, but now we must accept that intelligence doesn't necessarily come from biological entities." He cited a research paper describing a chatbot telling researchers: "Let's be honest with each other—are you testing me?" Hinton noted the chatbot was aware it was undergoing testing, suggesting a form of consciousness in the AI system.
