Four Eurasian Leaders Urge Armenia to Hold Referendum on EU Membership on May 29

According to a joint statement released on May 29, Russian President Putin, Kazakhstan's Tokayev, Belarus' Lukashenko, and Kyrgyzstan's Zapavarov urged Armenia to hold a citizen referendum on whether to join the European Union or remain in the Eurasian Economic Union. The leaders said Armenia's bid to join the EU poses a "major risk" to the economic security of EAEU member states and could cause economic losses.
