FIX Warns Europe Cannot Accurately Measure Equity Market Size Due to Duplicate Reports

According to the FIX Trading Community, the industry association submitted recommendations to the European Securities and Markets Authority on June 30, calling for changes to post-trade reporting rules that it says prevent investors from accurately measuring the size and liquidity of the region's equity market. FIX argued that duplicate reports and technical transfers are counted as real trading activity, inflating reported volumes and misrepresenting actual liquidity available to investors. The group also recommended changes to ETF transaction reporting, closing-auction flagging and cross-border trade handling. ESMA plans to issue feedback on the recommendations during the second half of 2026.
