According to the Palestinian news agency, Fatah’s eighth general congress announced the election results for its new central committee and revolutionary council on May 18. The new central committee includes Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and Marwan Barghouti, who remains detained in Israeli prison. The election saw a 94.64% voter turnout, with 59 candidates competing for 18 central committee seats and 450 candidates vying for 80 revolutionary council positions. The announced results are subject to a 24-hour public notice period during which objections may be filed.
