According to Phil Brickell, a Labour MP who chairs the parliamentary anti-corruption group, Nigel Farage has been reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards over allegations that he lobbied the Bank of England on cryptocurrency policy in a way that could benefit his biggest donor. The complaint centers on a September 2025 private meeting in which Farage reportedly urged Governor Andrew Bailey to scrap plans for a central bank digital currency, or "Britcoin."
Farage accepted an undeclared £5 million ($6.7 million) gift from Christopher Harborne, a British billionaire who holds a 12% stake in stablecoin issuer Tether, prior to the July 2024 general election. Parliamentary rules bar MPs from approaching officials on behalf of people who pay them for 12 months after such a payment. Reform UK received an additional £15 million from Harborne between August 2025 and February 2026.
