Facet Co-founder Pitches EIP-8182 for Private ETH Transfers in Ethereum's Hegota Upgrade on Friday

According to The Block, Tom Lehman, co-founder of Layer 2 network Facet, pitched EIP-8182 for inclusion in Ethereum's Hegota upgrade on Friday. The proposal calls for a protocol-managed shielded pool using a UTXO-based design with no admin key, proxy, or pause mechanism. Spends would be verified via Groth16 BN254 proofs. Lehman argued that existing privacy solutions face fragmentation issues—new pools cannot attract users without anonymity already in place, yet anonymity sets weaken across competing pools. EIP-8182 would provide a single shared pool for all Ethereum wallets and applications, enabling private ETH and ERC-20 transfers to any existing address or ENS name.
