According to Ethereum developer Toni Wahrstätter, the Ethereum network is preparing for the Glamsterdam hard fork, with the central proposal EIP-7928 adding parallel transaction execution capabilities to the Ethereum Virtual Machine. The update introduces a Block Access List (BAL) structure that records accounts and storage areas accessed per block, allowing Ethereum clients to verify transactions concurrently rather than sequentially.
Tests show block verification speeds have increased by up to five times on 6-core machines. The Glamsterdam hardfork will initially be implemented with a gas limit of approximately 200 million, with potential to increase to 300 million. EIP-7928 will also work with EIP-7732 to improve transaction execution efficiency.
