According to Reuters, Eli Lilly (LLY-US) plans to launch its oral GLP-1 weight-loss drug Orforglipron in Europe and the UK between the second half of 2026 and early 2027, following regulatory approvals in the U.S. and UAE. Patrik Jonsson, Lilly's EVP of international operations, stated the company will replicate its U.S. market strategy by leveraging telehealth platforms, e-commerce, and direct-to-consumer channels to capture rapid growth in the obesity treatment segment.
Unlike the U.S., most European obesity treatments are patient-funded due to limited public healthcare coverage, so Lilly will initially target self-paying consumers before pursuing insurance reimbursement. Clinical trial data showed Orforglipron achieved over 12% average weight reduction in high-dose patients after approximately 40 weeks without injections, positioning it as a key oral alternative to injectable competitors like Novo Nordisk's Wegovy.
