EC Futures Hover at Elevated Levels; June-End Spot Rates for Standard Containers Average $4,900

According to Haitong Futures research on June 11, EC futures opened higher in morning trading driven by shipping lines' June rate hike announcements, but subsequently pulled back and consolidated at elevated levels as bulls took profits. Market participants show significant disagreement on the peak level and timing of freight rates. Spot rates for June-end standard containers averaged $4,900, with Maersk reporting $4,900–$5,100, MSC $5,040, SS $5,840, DT $6,040, and NAC $4,840. PA Alliance maintained $4,800. Strong booking support from long-term contract cargo and FAK subscriptions kept most ship operators' capacity utilization robust, with no clear signals of weakening demand or rates.
