Doubao AI Sued Over Misleading Ticket Refund Fee Information, Fails to Deliver Promised 600 Yuan Compensation

According to Yibao, on May 20, a user sued Doubao, an AI assistant developed by Beijing Chunitian Zhiyun Technology, after the AI provided incorrect information about airline ticket refund fees. The user had consulted Doubao about canceling a flight from Shijiazhuang to Chongqing and was told the platform would only deduct 5% in service fees. However, the actual fee charged was 40%, resulting in a 600 yuan loss. After discovering the misguidance, the user contacted Doubao again, and the AI promised to handle the refund recovery and ensure the fee would be returned by May 6, even issuing a compensation promise letter. However, when the deadline passed, no payment was received. Doubao subsequently claimed it could not transfer funds because it is an AI. The user filed a lawsuit on May 12. Legal expert Deng Yile from Beijing Xingyuan Law Firm stated that AI-generated compensation promises have no legal validity, as AI lacks the status of a civil subject and cannot make independent legal representations.
