According to The Korea Times, South Korea’s Doosan Corp and Lotte Energy Materials are increasing investments in chip materials this year to meet surging AI demand. Doosan will spend 244.5 billion won ($166 million) on copper clad laminate (CCL), a printed circuit board material, with its South Korean plants running above 100% utilization. The company is also building a 180 billion won ($122 million) CCL plant in Thailand set to begin operations in the second half of 2028. Lotte Energy Materials will invest 49 billion won ($33.3 million) to expand annual AI circuit foil capacity to 16,000 tons next year from 3,700 tons, with its Iksan plant currently at 90% utilization.
