Data shows 2026 DeFi thefts are projected to reach $1.89 billion annualized, with $988.6 million stolen year-to-date, below 2025 levels. Haseeb notes that while attack frequency has increased, individual theft sizes are declining faster. Attackers increasingly target smaller protocols and abandoned projects, while major protocols have strengthened security defenses, maintaining overall fund safety.
