D3Lab Detects New Wave of Android NFC Tap-to-Pay Malware Targeting European Banks

According to cybersecurity firm D3Lab, a fresh wave of Android malware has been detected targeting Italian and other European banks, stealing payment card details through NFC tap-to-pay technology. The malware tricks users into downloading harmful software via urgent messages claiming they need to update their banking app. Once installed, it displays a fake verification screen and prompts users to hold their real payment card near the phone, where it reads card information and PIN before sending the stolen data to attackers. To evade detection, criminals frequently update malicious files hosted on GitHub using different bank names and technical tricks, allowing the attacks to continue reaching Android users despite ongoing security efforts.
