According to the Crypto Council for Innovation, Digital Chamber, and Blockchain Association, the three groups called for floor consideration of the CLARITY Act on Friday. The bill requires 60 votes to pass in the Republican-controlled Senate, where the party holds a 52-47 majority over Democrats.
Democrats have opposed the bill's ethics provisions, which bar public officials from issuing or sponsoring cryptocurrencies, saying they do not go far enough to prevent corruption. Senator Ruben Gallego criticized the Republican counterproposal on Thursday, saying it was not a serious effort. If lawmakers fail to vote before the Senate breaks in August, the consideration could extend into the weeks preceding the 2026 midterm elections.
