CFTC Releases 267-Page Prediction Market Rules, Proposes Most Sports Contracts but Bans Live Betting

According to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), on June 10, the regulator released a 267-page rule proposal for prediction markets, permitting most sports contracts while prohibiting in-play betting and college sports wagering. The public comment period runs for 45 days. Kalshi currently holds approximately 91% of U.S. regulated prediction market share with about $1 billion in open interest out of the industry's $1.6 billion total, according to Bank of America analysis.
