BitGo Launches Quantum Risk Management Features for Bitcoin Wallets

BitGo Holdings announced quantum risk management features for Bitcoin wallets on the 10th. The digital asset infrastructure company designed the features to help institutions assess, manage, and reduce quantum-related exposure across UTXO-based wallets. BitGo stated the release extends its multi-signature security architecture with wallet key exposure management, improved UTXO handling, and new operational tools as the industry prepares for the post-quantum era. CEO Mike Belshe said the company believes keys whose public keys have never been exposed on-chain are the most secure, and the features provide institutions with practical ways to understand and reduce quantum exposure while continuing to rely on the proven security of multi-signature.

BitGo Introduces Four Quantum Risk Management Components

BitGo's quantum risk management features for Bitcoin wallets consist of four components. The UTXO selection method groups and prioritizes UTXOs by address to reduce exposure from partial spending. The quantum risk scoring system helps customers understand potential quantum-related exposure across supported Bitcoin wallets within the platform. The Fix Exposed Addresses Workflow provides guided remediation procedures allowing customers to move funds from high-exposure addresses to newly generated addresses with improved key hygiene. Default address-type controls update wallet behavior to reduce reliance on Bitcoin address types and transaction patterns that may introduce additional quantum-related considerations.

BitGo explained these controls do not replace future Bitcoin protocol-level post-quantum signature upgrades but are designed to reduce address and transaction-level exposure using currently available tools. The new features apply to supported UTXO-based assets and multi-signature wallet configurations. Address types such as Taproot or Pay-to-Public-Key that expose public keys at creation require separate remediation and fall outside this application's scope.

CEO Outlines Institutional Quantum Risk Approach

CEO Mike Belshe stated institutions do not need to wait until a quantum event occurs to begin managing quantum risk. Belshe said the right approach is to reduce exposure now, strengthen wallet operations, and prepare for migration from today's security models to future post-quantum standards.
