Bank of Korea to Likely Make Next Rate Adjustment in October, Meritz Securities Forecasts

According to Meritz Securities analyst Lee Seung-hoon, on July 21, the Bank of Korea will likely make its next rate adjustment in October, rather than implementing consecutive hikes as in past cycles. The analyst noted that while semiconductor-driven export strength is supporting economic growth, the current financial environment differs from previous consecutive rate-hike periods. Unlike past cycles, credit loan growth stands at 3.9% year-on-year as of June, below nominal GDP growth, and apartment price increases remain concentrated in the Seoul region without reaching the 0.5% weekly surge seen in 2021.
