Apple Sues OpenAI, Former Employees for Stealing Hardware Trade Secrets on Friday

According to a complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Apple sued OpenAI and two former employees, Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, accusing them of stealing trade secrets related to hardware development. Apple alleges Liu, a former senior system electrical engineer who left the company in January after eight years, accessed Apple's internal systems through an authentication bug and downloaded dozens of confidential hardware files, including specifications for unreleased products. The company also claims Tan, who spent 24 years at Apple before becoming OpenAI's chief hardware officer, used Apple's confidential information during OpenAI's recruiting process. Apple says it has hired more than 400 former Apple employees for its hardware division and contacted OpenAI in February with concerns about confidential information, but received no response.
